- Under the direct supervision of a provider, assists with performing patient care in clinic and procedure room settings.
- Assist in scheduling Cornea patients for clinic appointments, procedures, and post-operative appointments.
- Performs documentation, patient education and enters charges.
- Orients, trains and educations students, staff and residents.
- Staff resource and mentor.
- Assist with prescription refill process under the direction of provider.
- Ensures proper care and usage of medical instruments in both clinical area and procedural area.
- Assists with minor procedures in clinic and procedure room cases, complying with clean and aseptic techniques.
- Responsible for reviewing clinic and procedure schedules for assignments and coverage and reports any discrepancies to the clinical coordinator and/or clinical supervisor.
- Performs clinical assignments, procedural assignments, and additional duties delegated by clinical supervisors.
- Serves as a liaison between the Cornea clinic, other divisions within Ophthalmology, satellite clinics, other departments within UCHealth and outside referring physicians to assure efficient patient care.
- Assists with the flow of patient care in clinic and procedural areas. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in performing ophthalmic core competencies and assisting in minor procedures.
- Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED. Completion of UCHealth preceptor course.
- Required Licensure/Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
- Minimum Experience: 3 years sponsored on the job ophthalmic training, or ophthalmic internship.
- Experience: 3 + years working with a Cornea specialist, assisting in refractive cases, assisting in minor cornea procedures, educating patients on IOL choices, and assisting in crosslinking cases
