Work Shift: I. Position Summary:
Provides administrative, technical, education and coordination to ensure effective coordination between Emory Medical Laboratory and internal and external customers. Implements programs and monitors compliance with policies and procedures that meet federal and sate regulations and accreditation standards. Provides a supportive link between Emory Medical Laboratory and both internal and external customers. Projects a professional image through formal and informal communication to internal and external customers. Maintains accurate records, troubleshoots problems related specifically to laboratory issues such as test ordering, specimen integrity, result reporting and billing. Coordinates resolution with appropriate lab section. Performs other related duties as required. Analyzes and researches departmental budget(s) to locate errors and/or omissions, balance account records, and reconcile discrepancies. Provides input and maintains compliance with fiscal constraints. Develops and implements comprehensive procedures for lab-related processes. Assists in developing goals and objectives for specific area of responsibility; correlates goals with health care systems strategic goals. Analyzes area's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints. Troubleshoots problems related to laboratory issues such as (but not limited to) supply distribution, test ordering, specimen integrity, result reporting, compliance and billing. Coordinates resolution with appropriate lab section in a timely manner. Seeks input and recommendations on ways to improve operations. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Collects, organizes, and analyzes data and generates and provides accurate and complete reports for management and/or regulatory agencies. Submits monthly compliance reports and documentation of issues and resolutions. Maintains accurate records using various databases in the laboratory. Assists with education and training of internal and external customers relating to laboratory processes. Interacts as liaison with program participants, facilitating and encouraging questions and discussion and serving as a resource; provides information through newsletters, formal meetings, telephone contact, etc. Meets with laboratory administration, faculty and other departments.II. Qualifications:
A. Education & Training:
A bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical lab science, chemical, physical, or biological science is required. Other bachelor's degrees will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework met requirements of certifying agency. EDUCATION EXEMPTION: Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who as ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP.
B. Experience:
Three years related experience
C. Required Certification/Registration/Licensure:
HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services
D. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understands CLIA waived and Moderate complexity Point of Care Testing and regulatory requirements. Ability to conduct environment of care and safety observations and interventions.
