
Entry Level Distribution Engineer

- Conduct site visits and take field notes, including visual inspections, equipment inventory, measurements, sketches, and photographs.
- Evaluate loading of equipment components such as transformers and structural loading of poles.
- Review and interpret design manuals and details from local jurisdictions.
- Determine and specify design requirements.
- Perform electric distribution designs using field notes according to Utility standards.
- Design and draft construction drawings using standard engineering fundamentals.
- Prepare projects and job packages using appropriate software, including material estimates and requisitions.
- Review plans for proposed construction to assess impacts on existing distribution systems.
- Develop solutions for conductor and structural clearance violations.
- Develop final design plan packages for implementation.
- Ensure projects meet ISO compliance requirements.
- Attend bi-weekly meetings with project teams.
- Graduation from an ABET accredited college with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- Hands-on design/engineering experience.
- Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
- Ability to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and initiative.
- Interest or experience in Power/Energy/Utilities.
- Basic knowledge of electric utility industry concepts.
- Experience with design software packages like BOUD, Bentley Open Utility Designer, AutoCAD.
- Experience on the Duke Energy system.
- Experience interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects.
- Current knowledge of BOUD/Maximo, Smallworld, and Microstation.
- EIT/ Passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
- Excellent customer service skills.
