The ParaEducator serves as a vital member of the classroom team, assisting teachers in the supervision and instruction of special education students as outlined in PPT and IEP. Working under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, building Principal, and/or Supervisor of Special Education, the ParaEducator plays an integral role in supporting student learning and educational objectives.Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions effectively.

  • Must possess the skills necessary to work productively with children at the Elementary Level.
  • Utilizes and maintains ethical practices for confidential communication about students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement individual and small group intervention under the supervision of a certified teacher to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Upon completion of training - administer, score and record achievements and diagnostic tests, under the direction of the teacher for individual students or groups of students.
  • Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual student needs and abilities.
  • Assist the teacher in the handling, operation and care of equipment used in the classroom, including media, and instructional materials.
  • Under the supervision and assignment of a teacher check notebooks, correct papers and supervise testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
  • Serve as a source of information and help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in drill work, large group reading or storytelling.
  • Under the supervision of a teacher, help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set and assigned by the teacher.
  • Attend Professional Development programming as required by the Building Administrator and/or District Administrators.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the teacher and/or administrator.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Physical Activity:
The position will require infrequent lifting, pulling or pushing during the normal performance of the tasks and responsibilities. Work may require frequent walking, standing and the ability to work on the floor with children. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of a ParaEducator, at a minimum, the essential functions of the position.Work Environment: - Work is performed in the school environment.
Terms of Employment
  • Full-time – 183 day work year/ 7 hour work day
