The Blending Lead Operator role at our Sycamore plant is responsible for the safe operations, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting of processing equipment that produces distinctive, high-quality ingredients and solutions to the food, beverage, and other industries. He/she shall be an initiative-taker and able to self-manage.   • Performing duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption.
  • Compliance with procedures that implement the requirements of the EHS policies and procedures.
  • Conducting their work in a manner which does not present a risk to themselves, others, and the environment.
  • Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions at all times. Report any environmental violations or near misses to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle.
  • Reporting all incidents, defects, hazards, and inadequacies of procedures so that appropriate review and corrective action can be taken.
  • Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure EHS Support’s activities and services are conducted in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable and cost-effective manner.
  • Understand the lifesaving principles and product protection principles and how they apply to T&L’s work environment.
Main accountabilities
  • Performing all job functions/activities with a strong safety commitment and compliance with all outlined safety policies and procedures.
  • Model and instill Tate & Lyle values with the blending team operators.
  • Must have and demonstrate outstanding attendance patterns.
  • Support the shift supervisor in managing the day-to-day functions required of the team.
  • Lead production team on occasion during shift supervisor leaves.
  • Perform HACCP on various processing lines and report and deficiencies to management & QA Manager.
  • Lead the training of new employees within the department and foster the growth of all team members.
  • Review and inspect batch setups for accuracy of raw materials and quantities prior to being produced.
  • Providing relief to operators during break times to ensure continuous processing.
  • Monitor and report any infractions of operators for excessive break times or absences as needed.
  • Communicate in a positive manner with team members from different departments as needed.
  • Have understanding of emergency procedures and show leadership and direction in times of emergency.
  • Thoroughly understand and properly execute permits such as work permits, lock-tag-try, confined space.
  • Independently recognize and correct safety / food safety hazards.
  • Meeting and exceeding housekeeping/GMP standards and food safety protocols.
  • Moving, packing, and sorting raw materials or finished product packaging.
  • Monitoring the quality of output to identify, discard, or re-manufacture faulty products.
  • Maintaining accurate daily production records as input to manufacturing performance analysis.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Safety/Food Safety policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Thoroughly understand and properly execute permits such as work permit, lock-tag-try, confined space.
  • Independently recognize and correct Safety / Food Safety hazards.
  • Ensure that outlined standards for housekeeping and GMP are met/exceeded.
  • Understand auditing and observation process and complete as assigned.
  • Demonstrate outstanding attendance patterns.
  • Ability to be flexible to with working hours when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience required
  • Highschool diploma/GED is required.
  • 3 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably in dry blending.
  • Simple mathematical skills related to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Possessing of a strong, positive safety mindset while performing all functions/activities.
  • Committed to our customers through ensuring compliance with all applicable GMP and food safety policies and procedures.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starting and self-managing.
  • Purposeful and focused on continuous improvement of themselves as individuals and the overall operation of the area.
