What Success Looks Like In This JobProvide legal motions and notary services to the inmates, process program rosters, maintain a leisure reading collection, provide resources to the inmates, and assist other sections within the Programs Unit.Examples of Duties for SuccessTo promote the physical, creative and social development of inmates detained at the Adams County Detention Facility.Examples of Duties for Success:
Report to the Programs Supervisor.
Adhere to policies, procedures, and post orders.
Attend required trainings and practice safety/security awareness.
Utilize effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, written, listening)
Provide professional customer service.
Promote a positive team atmosphere.
Prepare reports as directed and meet required deadlines.
Obtain notary certification while in training and maintain certification throughout employment in this position.
Work with the inmate population, individually and/or in a group setting, while maintaining control of the environment.
Supervise inmate workers in the course of their duties
Conduct/supervise recreational activities, games, tournaments, art classes, and other leisure activities for the inmates within the Detention Facility.
Prepare lesson plans and recreation/leisure activity handouts for the inmates.
Maintain an inventory of games and recreational equipment. Provide inventory information to the Programs Supervisor for purchasing.
Assist in getting inmates to scheduled programs.
Organize, promote, and develop interest in activities and special programs for inmates.
Assist with sign-up sheet for various programs.
Perform game exchanges and provide recreational equipment to the housing units on a regular basis.
Gather inmates for scheduled programs.
Maintain inventory, suggest items to order, and receive recreational equipment and supplies.
Assist with coverage in the Law Library (Program Rosters, Book Exchange, Law Desk, Resources).
Assist with coverage of the mail room (collect, process, and disseminate mail).
Assist the volunteers in the volunteer program.
Assist inmates with physical and mental disabilities in accessing and participating in Facility programs in accordance to their classification level.
The job responsibilities of the Recreation Assistant and Library Assistant may be shared and rotated positions
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for Success
Minimum 21 years of age
Must have a valid Colorado driver's license
Employee should possess mental alertness and the ability to adapt to changing routines
High School Diploma or equivalent education
Two years of college in addition to experience working with inmates in a Correctional Facility Setting or similar situation is preferred

Knowledge of computer systems (MS Office Suite)
Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary
Knowledge of basic legal terminology is preferred
Ability to facilitate and control group activities in a secure environment
Ability to make sound decisions quickly
Ability to be assertive and self-motivated
