- Apply technical knowledge, engineering instinct, problem solving, creativity, leadership and communications to develop design solutions that meet customer needs.
- Receive, validate, and understand the Stakeholder and top-level technical requirements for the project you support
- Work with the program technical leads to develop a system architecture that meets the Stakeholder and top-level technical requirements.
- Establish technical requirements for the chosen design solutions from system to component, and work with the technical leads to develop a design architecture that meets those requirements.
- Establish the ConOps for the systems, subsystems, assemblies and components you support
- Identify the interfaces for the systems, subsystems, assemblies and components you support and establish the requirements for those interfaces
- Verify that the systems, subsystems, assemblies and components meet their stated requirements.
- Work with the appropriate technical leads to ensure design, test, analysis, manufacturing, quality and procurement efforts are consistent with the requirements, ConOps and interfaces at both the top level and detail level.
- Identify risks and opportunities and work with Program Management to address each accordingly.
- Formulate and perform system design trades studies.
- Lead small teams of other systems engineers.
- Interface and manage relationships with customers and suppliers to present technical and programmatic progress and as well as challenges that must be overcome.
- Knowledge and experience with highly technical systems, subsystems, assemblies, and/or components, particularly those related to human spaceflight systems.
- Knowledge and experience with the systems engineering product lifecycle, ranging from requirements development through design, manufacture, test, and operations.
- Knowledge and skills in applying systems engineering principles and procedures to develop practical and tailored engineering solutions.
- Ideally, but not required, knowledge of, and skills in, CAD software (e.g. SOLIDWORKS), and Product Data Management tools such as Windchill, or SOLIDWORKS PDM
- Skill in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)
- Ability to effectively communicate in both written and spoken form.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Bio-mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field and at least 6 years with system and/or hardware design and analysis experience
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Bio-mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field and at least 4years with system and/or hardware design and analysis experience
- PhD degree in Mechanical, Bio-mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field and at least 2 years with system and /or hardware design experience in the aerospace industry.
