- Provides leadership, supervision, and oversight to the SLICE staff, including strategic planning and furthering the SLICE mission, vision, and goals.
- Advises and works closely with the Service Learning and Impact in Community Engagement (SLICE) Advisory Board.
- Supervises the Assistant Director for Service Learning, Leadership, and Social Action and the Assistant Director for Community Engagement.
- Oversees hiring, training, and supervision of the SLICE staff.
- Collaborate with staff to set outcomes and goals, manage performance, and support professional and personal development.
- Supports students, interns, and volunteers in their professional and personal development through mentorship and active engagement in the SLICE programming.
- Provides fiscal oversight for a department budget totaling over 800k.
- Coordinates budget reports, proposals, and summaries for the SLICE Advisory Board, CU Student Government, Finance Board, Legislative Council, and Student Life leadership.
- Advises the assistant directors in student staff hiring and supervision practices for responsible for signature department offerings, including Sko Serve (alternative breaks), CU in the Community, Boulder Municipal Courts validation, volunteer placement, marketing, and one-day event teams.
- Supports SLICE professional and student staff in maintaining efficient and effective expenditure and tracking practices.
- Develops innovative volunteer programming by building collaborative relationships with campus and community organizations.
- Applies conceptual and theoretical models to assess and adapt programming and services to best meet the needs of current students.
- Oversees the acquisition and implementation of volunteer management software.
- Continuously engage in strategic visioning and planning, assessing the effectiveness.
- Delegates responsibilities and partners with Student Life Technology Solutions to ensure smooth integration.
- Serve as an advisor to the SLICE Board, a student advisory board that provides oversight and student input.
- Collaborate with the Student Government Legislative Council and Finance Board quarterly, as needed, and annually on budget requests, earmarks, and budget enhancements to meet growing program needs.
- Leads service-learning initiatives, civic engagement, and volunteer management training and development for students, staff, faculty, and community-partner organizations where appropriate.
- Leads fundraising efforts, including finding opportunities to work with CU advancement, alumni, and national partners.
- Consult campus partners on standard processes and policies impacting the use of volunteer labor at CU Boulder.
- Uses political acumen and relationship building to identify differences of opinions and values when present, amplifies priority initiatives from both areas, and reports to both areas regularly.
- Partners with CU Risk Management, Emergency Management, and Student Life, Policy and Compliance to support assessment of risk and responsibility in volunteer programs.
- Responsible for the development and continuous improvement of the SLICE policies and procedures.
- Responsible for supervising and collaborating with the development of an active assessment and communication plan that, in line with the strategic vision of Student Life, works to measure how SLICE engages students, staff, and faculty in service opportunities and aids in tracking broader retention efforts.
- Reviews campus and state policies and adapts the SLICE policies and programs accordingly.
- Develops a strategic outreach plan to include campus and community partners to increase general awareness of SLICE programs and services.
- Represents SLICE in community, state, and national interests by conveying the SLICE's mission and goals and explaining how SLICE's work can support and add to the work of other campus departments, including boards, committees, task forces, and other various working groups on campus and in the community.
- Coordinates with city, state, and regional external agencies where appropriate to manage volunteer and donation efforts.
- Partners with various collaborators in the service engagement and volunteer placement fields at CU and in broader communities to streamline services and communications to faculty, staff and students.
- Supports communities by teaching volunteers engaged in SLICE initiatives, cultural competency skills, navigation, appreciation, and adaptation to differences in programs such as CU in the Community, SKO Serve, and the volunteer placement program, among others.
- Maintains strong working relationships with campus partners like the Center for Cultural Connections and Community, the Bold Center, CU Leads, and others to ensure service and experiential learning center and an advocacy framework.
- Stay on top of current literature and developments in the field of Student Affairs, behavioral intervention, student conduct, student retention and other related professional trends.
- Attend pertinent conferences and conventions as well as present information when requested for shared development.
- Campus volunteering and committee opportunities.
- Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor in various scenarios/settings.
- The starting salary for this position is $95,000-$97,000.

- Master's degree in sociology, higher education, nonprofit administration, or a closely related field. Appropriate experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
- 4+ years of experience in program development and management related to service learning or civic engagement programs in a higher education setting.
- Experience supervising professional staff.
- Experience with budget and fiscal management.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of diverse people, including staff, students, faculty, parents, community partners and administration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
