Major and well established company with a good working culture has an opportunity for a Packaging Engineer in the southern area of upstate NY. In this role will manage projects associated with the design, development, testing, procurement as well as validation of packaging solutions in a manufacturing setting. This could include steel shipping racks, standard and custom returnable containers, and expendable containers for delivery of product from their suppliers to line side points of consumption. Will eliminate all non-valued added handling, travel, and storage space as part of the delivery system design. Projects will be lead across various locations and will require some domestic and international travel (not heavy travel). Will be responsible for engineering analysis, test, and design of various basic to complex packaging solutions based on company requirements. Will develop solutions that utilize loT and automation to provide real time data that enables analytics to optimize material delivery. Will provide onsite launch support to validate that packaging meets program requirements. Will coordinate with logistics partners, customer stakeholders, and part suppliers to establish project schedule, design criteria, strategy for procurement, and logistics requirements. Customer departments and packaging departments will be consulted with to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging. Will also plan and direct activities concerned with the design, testing, prototyping, and delivery of containers. Included with this is design reviews, first article inspections, laboratory (vibration, impact, compression, drop, etc.) testing, over the road testing, problem solving as well as troubleshooting. Will initiate and maintain customer-specific packaging database for assigned parts. There are also other responsibilities. For now role will alternate between working every other day remotely and the other day in the facility.
  • Bachelor degree in related engineering field such as ( packaging science, industrial, manufacturing, process, ergonomic, etc.
  • At least one year of engineering related packaging / material handling and material flow experience in a manufacturing setting for large items is needed
  • Must have very good oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Need to be able to communicate effectively cross functionally across levels of the organization and with suppliers
  • Must be team oriented and demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and dependability.
  • Excellent project management, planning and interpersonal skills are needed
  • Must be open to some overnight travel to include both domestic and international
  • Must be authorized to work indefinitely in the USA without sponsorship
