
Coordinator Skilled Trades Labs (PT) - Overhead Electrical Line Worker (OELW)

- Sets-up and prepares indoor and outdoor lab environment for demonstration of and practice of techniques and skills in performing physical/manual work activities and/or operating equipment.
- Demonstrates a variety of OELW climbing techniques (i.e. aerial/pole climbing, operation and use of power equipment (e.g. use of bucket trucks, cable pullers), and construction safety and rescue practices in a lab environment.
- Assists Instructors with lab activities to supplement and ensure proper coordination with classroom instruction.
- Inspects, organizes, and checks equipment and supplies used during labs to ensure proper operating condition and proper functioning.
- Maintains inventory records of equipment and supplies; orders supplies; and maintains appropriate inventory levels.
- Reports equipment failures or in need of repair to management and takes appropriate steps to ensure safety of students and staff.
- Provides information to current and prospective students about the OELW program.
- Provides additional laboratory scheduling and assists students during open lab hours for review or practice of laboratory-related aspects.
- Assists with group tours, recruitment efforts, and prospective student interviews as necessary.
- Participates in all program and departmental meetings.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Completion of an Electrical Line Worker program
- Two years of experience as an overhead electrical line worker for a utility company preferred but not necessary
- OSHA 10 safety certification with electrical and distribution systems (ET&D)
- Demonstrated knowledge of electric theory and all aspects of overhead high voltage electric line including overhead and underground distribution structures and equipment
- Knowledge and ability to demonstrative safety and rescue techniques and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) mandatory in the high voltage utility industry
- Physical ability to demonstrate techniques such as aerial climbing and use of power line equipment and hand tools and related overhead line work techniques
- Ability to operate and drive utility vehicles associated with the program
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
- Some proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
