Under the general supervision of the Plant Manager, this role is the horizontal process owner for Safety and Environmental Management System. This person is responsible for ensuring safe practices, obtaining injury reduction, implementing proactive safety processes, increasing safety and environmental awareness, and developing and maintaining robust training programs.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure safe practices, injury/illness prevention processes, regulatory compliance, along with risk management for liability, Workers’ Compensation, and property claims at the manufacturing site are being adhered to.
- Responsible for enforcement of McCormick Safety policies and procedures, facilitation and maintenance of general conditions audits, behavior-based safety systems, other proactive safety processes, case management, analysis of safety incidents and behaviors.
- Develop meaningful safety measures for the Gretna scorecard to drive performance improvements and lower TIR through continuous improvement
- Communicate and translate organizational Safety, Health and Environment objectives, goals, strategies and measures tied to leading metrics.
- Develop and facilitate the Safety Functional Leads in a manner which ensures Injury/Incident review boards, leading action plans, training and root cause analysis are conducted appropriately.
- Develops and implements policies, programs, and practices to promote continuous improvement within the Gretna plant and to ensure, at a minimum, that the organization is in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
- Conducts safety audits and plan reviews in order to identify unsafe acts and conditions, program gaps, and best practices.
- Assist in the facilitation of site annual Safety, Health and Environmental action plans.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Engineering or Business
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA, EPA and State safety/environmental regulations is strongly preferred.
- 7-10 years of Safety, Health and Environment management in manufacturing (food manufacturing strongly preferred). Knowledge of operations. Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards and regulations. Knowledge of Workers Compensation.
- Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide and influence others.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to achieve common objectives through Gretna Plant. May interface with external parties as representative of the plant/facility.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to translate strategy into actionable information in small or large groups in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Presentation ability and motivational speaking.
