The Springfield Mill is a 1,750+ ton per day containerboard mill with one paper machine, a continuous digester, a secondary fiber plant and a utilities/chemical recovery complex. It currently operates with 290 mill employees.Chief responsibilities consist of safely and efficiently utilizing of full potential of operating, maintenance and other support resources to maximize the performance of the Springfield facility by providing quality, timely, and cost effective services and products to the internal and external customers. Provide leadership and direction of shift crews.Provide leadership in a goals-oriented environment to deliver target results in the areas of safety, environmental, quality, productivity, employee engagement, and reliability excellence. Manage the performance and development of salaried and hourly team members by setting clear expectations and standards of performance through effective one on one performance evaluations and discussions in addition to ensuring that operator certification modules are developed, maintained, and implemented for employee development.This position will report directly to the Springfield PM2 Superintendent.The Job You Will Perform:
  • Promote and support a “Safety Above All Else” culture.
  • Ensure the PM2 area operates within all environmental permits for the mill.
  • Lead by example and ensure acceptable work practices are being followed.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures while maintaining a supportive work environment.
  • Sets expectations for hourly team member operational performance.
  • Drive engagement and team development in the PM2 Area.
  • Set standards and hold employees accountable for excellent housekeeping.
  • Provide leadership to troubleshoot operating issues within the PM2 Area
  • Manage overall PM2 operations in order to maximize production and efficiency by analyzing the processes and utilizing all available tools, technology, and outside resources.
  • Maintain product quality that meets and exceeds customer expectations by producing products that are within our specifications. Maintain Best Quartile Quality Performance and Schedule Adherence.
  • Manage spending to Budget.
  • Support shutdown planning, preventive/predictive maintenance and the equipment reliability process.
  • Ensure reliability plans for major area equipment rebuilds are met.
  • Develop and support area capital planning to allow the department to meet future reliability and cost reduction targets.
  • Assist with developing yearly budget for the PM2 Area.
  • Keep reliable methods and training materials up to date.
  • Manage Crew Assignments and work with Hourly Schedulers to staff the Paper Machine
  • This position does require the individual to be part of a duty coverage team rotation that includes weekend and on-call coverage for the Finished Products Areas.
The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor Degree required, with preference in Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years related experience in pulp and paper industry
  • Strong commitment to safety in all aspects of business operations
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills and ability to motivate others
  • Technical problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage teams and projects
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project)
