The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customizing and configuring SharePoint environments in massive scale farms to meet evolving business needs and mission objectives of 24/7 user-base from around the globe. This role involves full lifecycle SharePoint development, including web part creation, system integration, testing, and end-user support in a sensitive, mission-critical setting.What You’ll Be Doing:Farm Ownership & TopologyArchitect, deploy, and manage multiple SPSE farms (Prod/Pre-Prod/Dev, isolated enclaves) using MinRole and best-practice topologies.Size and tune farm resources (CPU, memory, storage, network) for web, application, search, and distributed cache roles.Design and manage service applications (Search, User Profile, Managed Metadata, BCS), crawl/query topologies, and index partitions.Server Hosts, OS & Platform ManagementBuild and maintain Windows Server hosts (physical/virtual) including IIS, certificates, TLS hardening, syslog/event auditing, and group policy baselines.Coordinate with virtualization/storage teams (e.g., VMware/HyperV, SAN/NAS) to meet IOPS/latency and high-availability targets.Implement and validate cumulative updates and security patches for SharePoint, Windows Server, and dependencies with structured rollback plans.Load Balancing & Network IntegrationsConfigure, operate, and troubleshoot enterprise load balancers (e.g., F5 BIGIP, Citrix ADC/NetScaler, NGINX/HAProxy) for L7 routing, health probes, persistence, and SSL offload.Manage DNS, zones/records, and AAM/host-named site collections; integrate with reverse proxies and firewall rulesets.Support authentication flows (Windows/Claims, SAML/AD FS, PKI/Smartcard (PIV/CAC)) and enforce least-privilege / zero-trust access patterns.SQL Server & DatabasesPartner with DBAs to design and maintain SQL Server for SharePoint: tempdb layout, MAXDOP, memory, and storage optimization.Implement HA/DR (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping), backup/restore strategies, and RTO/RPO commitments.Govern content, configuration, and service application databases, growth forecasting, index maintenance, and performance baselines.Performance, Monitoring & TroubleshootingInstrument proactive monitoring via ULS logs, Health Analyzer, Windows Performance Counters, and enterprise tools (e.g., SCOM, Splunk, SolarWinds).Lead root-cause analysis of complex farm issues (timeouts, crawl failures, search latency, distributed cache pressure, workflows).Create and automate runbooks and operational playbooks for routine tasks and incident response.Automation & DevOpsAutomate provisioning, patch orchestration, and compliance checks using PowerShell (PnP.PowerShell/CSOM), desired state approaches, and CI/CD where applicable.Build preflight and post-change validation scripts; maintain environment-as-documentation (config drift detection).Governance, Security & ComplianceImplement and document governance for site lifecycle, quotas, storage, and information architecture.Apply DoD/NIST hardening guidance (e.g., STIGs), conduct vulnerability remediation, and support audits (e.g., POA&M, ATO sustainment).Enforce backups, DR testing, and continuity of operations with periodic validation exercises.Customer Engagement & Change ManagementTranslate mission requirements into scalable SharePoint solutions; partner with application and content owners.Lead changes through ITIL-aligned processes (RFCs, CABs), maintain CMDB accuracy, and produce high-quality as-built and SOP documentation.Participate in an on-call rotation for major incidents and maintenance windows.Location and Travel Requirements:This is an onsite role out of the Washington D.C. Area with travel as needed.Clearance Requirements:Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.Required Qualifications:Experience: 6+ years administering SharePoint Server (2016/2019/Subscription Edition) in enterprise or Government environments; 4+ years with Windows Server and IIS; 3+ years working with SQL Server in SharePoint contexts.SharePoint Expertise: Proven success operating multi-farm SPSE environments (Prod/Stage/Dev), including service apps, search topology, distributed cache, AAM, and claims-based auth.PowerShell Proficiency: Advanced scripting for provisioning, patching, reporting, ULS parsing, and task automation (PnP/CSOM familiarity).Load Balancing & Networking: Hands-on with L7 load balancers (F5/Citrix/NGINX), SSL/TLS, health probes, persistence, DNS, reverse proxies, and firewall integrations.SQL/Database Skills: Strong understanding of SharePoint database requirements, Always On, backup/restore, maintenance plans, and performance tuning.Security & Compliance: Experience with DoD 8570/8140 compliance, DISA STIG application, vulnerability management, auditing, and log retention.Operations & ITIL: Comfortable with change management, incident/problem management, CMDB hygiene, and writing SOPs/runbooks.Clearance/Citizenship: U.S. Citizen with an active clearance (or clear path to obtain/maintain per customer requirements).Soft Skills: Strong communication, customer focus, and ability to lead cross-functional troubleshooting and design sessions.Nice to Have:Certifications: DoD 8570/8140 baseline (e.g., Security+, CASP+, CISSP), ITIL v4 Foundation, Windows Server/SQL-focused Microsoft certifications (current), F5/Citrix ADC credentials.Hybrid & Identity: Experience with SharePoint hybrid (GCC/GCC High/DoD tenants), AD FS, Entra ID integrations, conditional access, and smartcard (PIV/CAC) auth.Advanced SQL/Storage: Deep troubleshooting of IOPS/latency, TempDB optimization, and performance baselining on SAN or hyperconverged platforms.Automation/DevOps: Desired State Configuration, Pester testing, pipeline-driven patching, Ansible, or config-as-code patterns.Search & Content Services: Search schema tuning, result sources, ranking models; governance of records management, retention, and eDiscovery integrations.Tooling Ecosystem: Familiarity with SharePoint platform tools (e.g., AvePoint, Metalogix/Quest, Nintex/K2, ShareGate) within on-prem constraints.Development Awareness: Ability to partner with dev teams on SPFx, CSOM/REST, and custom solutions (reviewing health/safety for onprem deployment).Monitoring/Observability: Building dashboards and alerts in SCOM, Splunk, or Grafana/Prometheus; capacity & trend analysis.Documentation & Training: Develop knowledge articles, job aids, and conduct admin/enduser training sessions.Applied Information Sciences does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, religion, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other basis.
