- Employ technologies to support application development and routine maintenance of Unisys databases: DDL, SDDL, UREP, etc.
- Troubleshoot the problems and design solutions to operational and/or performance problems with the databases.
- Work with management to develop database strategies to support agency needs; Consult and advise users on the use of databases.
- Answer questions about installation, operation, configuration, customization, and usage of database-related software products. Identify and solve application and system problems, and issues on a 24x7 basis.
- Applies diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigates causes and recommends solutions to correct failures.
- Provides alerts and situation status information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) management. Coordinates critical issues as well as new product and/or system implementations.
- Monitors performance and ensures completion of operational processes including incident resolution, root cause analysis, change management, and continual service improvement.
- Prepares, approves, and coordinates the implementation of technical documentation and ensures that technical documentation is current, accurate, and complete.
- Identifies, develops, and conducts training needs for others as appropriate.
- May participate in or lead defined project activities, and initiates process improvements.
- Will be required to provide on-call support when required.
- Perform database administration, maintenance, and operational support activities for the IRS.
- Implement schema changes as directed by the business unit on a biannual basis and coordinate the changes with all Unisys applications within the IRS.
- Performs system/application and database monitoring, alerting, and database performance tuning.
- Work with developers and others to support their ability to use the data to further the interests of the IRS. This includes data cleanup, conversions, running scripts, synchronizing versions, database upgrades, etc.
- Bachelor of Science, or equivalent education.
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years of Unisys DBA experience on an OS 2200 platform.
- 12 years of Unisys DBA experience on an OS 2200 platform experience in lieu of a degree.
- Must be client-focused, display interpersonal skills, and be an effective team member.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Minimum Background Experience (MBI).
- Experience as a DBA on Unisys OS 2200 primarily for Database Management System (DMS 2200) (Network Database) but also Relational Database Management System (RDMS 2200) using fundamental principles, theories, techniques, and methodologies of data processing systems analysis.
- Knowledge of computer programming, database design, and applicable tools.
- Experience with COBOL, both ACOB and UCOB.
- Knowledge of Meta-Assembler (MASM), Symbolic System Generator (SSG), CMplus, ALN (Access Location Number).
