Reporting to the Manager, Nutritional Services, you will work amicably with people, performs assigned duties related to obtaining patient preferences, menu controls, food production and changes in patient's diets. The Dietary Clerk will also file and performs clerical duties, including phone and computer duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Visits patients, obtaining menu selections. Enters diet changes into the kardex.
  • Retrieves patient related forms and materials and processes any diet changes.
  • Prepares menus for accuracy related to diet order and patient preferences.
  • Lists each patient’s name and room number on menus for the next day.
  • Takes diet changes and additions over the phone, communicating messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Makes labels for nourishments, using kardex.
  • Checks the patient tray line.
  • Files all unused menus, previous days’ phone messages, diet changes appropriately.
  • Maintains an adequate level of office supplies and menus.
  • Communicates food or service problems with the Assistant Director and/or designee.
  • Participates in the departmental in-service and education program.
  • Performs similar duties as food service aide as per separate procedures and training dictates.
  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner completing work assignments on time.
  • Completes appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards.
  • Organizes work procedures to general acceptable levels of productivity.
  • Completes own work as required and will assist others as needed.
  • Cooperates with coworkers and management to maintain a harmonious environment.
  • Adjusts work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics in all job functions.
  • Follows established emergency, infection control and/or universal precautions procedures as required.
  • Maintains work area and equipment according to standards and policies.
  • Attends mandatory in-services related to safety and/ or infection control.
  • Supports and participates in department quality improvement activities.
  • Provides quality improvements, which enhance effectiveness and efficiency of department.
  • Provides courteous service to internal/external customers as appropriate and/or refers customer to appropriate individual or department.
  • Offers assistance to all internal/external customers as appropriate and/or refers customer to appropriate individual or department.
  • Communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objectivity and non-judgmental viewpoints.
  • Assists in solving customer problems in a cooperative manner.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 Years of experience as a Dietary Aide
  • Experience using a computer, tray line equipment
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors.
