- System Analysis: Evaluating blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand the piping requirements of a particular project.
- Measurement & Cutting: Measuring, cutting, and threading, and preparation of pipes to the required size, and shape and condition to perform welding.
- Installation: Assembling and installing and installing piping systems according to specifications.
- Testing: Testing installed systems to ensure they function properly, using testing equipment like hydrostatic, leak, high pressure, x-ray testing equipment.
- Maintenance & Repair: Troubleshooting and repairing faulty systems and equipment.
- Safety: Adhering to safety regulations and standards, ensuring the safety of oneself and others on the job site.
- Collaboration: Working closely with other tradespeople, such as welders, plumbers, and contractors.
- Documentation: Keeping records of work performed, materials used, and other relevant data.
- Pipe Selection: Selecting the type and size of pipe required based on the material to be carried and the pressure it will be under.
- Equipment Use: Utilizing specific tools like lifts, pipe benders, torches, and cutting saws.
- Requirements: Interprets drawing including symbols and callouts. General knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- Welding & Brazing: Connecting pipes using welding or brazing techniques, often in collaboration with a specialized welder.
- Flange Installation: Securing and attaching pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures using brackets, clamps or hangers. , or welding.
- Fittings: Securing pipes using various fittings like elbows, unions, and tees.
- Pipe Preparation: Measuring, cleaning, grinding, beveling, squaring pipe ends
- Insulation: Applying insulation to pipes to prevent heat loss or maintain temperatures.
- System Flush: Cleaning and flushing the system after installation to remove any debris or contaminants.
- Inspection: Perform site inspections of piping systems to meet safety and regulatory requirements.
- Pressure Testing: Ensuring pipes are leak-proof and can withstand the necessary pressures by filling them with liquid or air under pressure.
- Pipe Bending: Using manual or hydraulic benders to achieve the desired angles without compromising the pipe's structural integrity.
- Material Knowledge: Recognizing the appropriate materials to use for specific applications, such as understanding which metals are resistant to certain chemicals.
- Valve Installation: Installing and repairing valves to control the flow within the piping system.
- Minimum of high school education or GED equivalent, or trade school
- Completed M&D apprentice program - Preferred
- Previous pipe fabrication experience
- Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions, and use simple math
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of pipe (carbon and stainless steel) systems and components
- Ability to read and comprehend project drawings components
- Must be detail oriented and organized
- Must be able to self-check own work to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple task and schedule requirements
- Strong TEAM player
- Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use simple math
- Location: industrial construction sites and/or office environment
- Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways
- Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately indoor climate; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc., potential exposure to chemical substances.
