Description :Essential Job Functions
  • Serve as a steward high-level health of the enterprise data warehouse, managing the lifecycle of data assets
  • Perform code reviews for data model updates
  • Design and develop data models for business and application domains
  • Create and QC the SQL transformation pipelines to convert raw data into modeled data
  • Identify refactoring opportunities for DAG scalability
  • Establish and implement standards for dbt, SQL, data quality, automated testing, and documentation
  • Troubleshoot and optimize SQL queries
  • Monitor and optimize overall run performance for data warehouse build process
  • Coach BI Engineers and non-BI team contributors on best practices
  • Provide feedback to the data platform team that builds tooling and infrastructure, owning the developer experience of the data modeling & publication process
  • Own key data models as needed
Building dashboards and creating analyses will not be a core part of this position. This is a high-leverage role that maintains the library and map of our data ecosystem: your primary customers are analysts and engineers.Skills and Attributes
  • Practical knowledge of data modeling and data design strategies
  • Advanced SQL skills—readable, fast queries are your default
  • Hands-on dbt (or dataform, sqlmesh, etc) experience
  • Comfortable coaching and mentoring other team members
  • Hands-on experience using and optimizing OLAP query engines
  • Meticulous about correctness and quality of work
  • Comfortable navigating a complex data ecosystem: ability to see big picture while also digging into the details
Preferred Skills
  • Specific experience with Snowflake
  • Dbt macros or Jinja
Nice to have but not required
  • Practical programming experience in a team environment
  • Experience with Terraform or infrastructure as code
Education and Experience
  • Required: multiple years as a developer or engineer in the data/BI/analytics space
  • Preferred: prior experience as an analytics engineer, data architect or similar role
