JOB TITLE:Concrete Testing TechnicianREPORTS TO:Laboratory ManagerNUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS:0DEPARTMENT:EngineeringFUNCTION:Perform tests on concrete and concrete making materialsLOCATION:LaboratoryDATE OF UPDATE:August 2025SUMMARY:The Concrete Testing Technician is responsible for performing, monitoring, and reporting laboratory tests on concrete and related materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards (e.g., ACI, ASTM, AASHTO). This role requires a self-motivated and experienced technician, capable of working independently, adhering to standardized procedures, and maintaining a high level of consistency and accuracy in a technical laboratory environment. In addition to routine quality control testing, the technician will support specialized projects involving innovative materials and durability testing, offering exposure to advanced testing techniques and opportunities for professional growth.KEY RESPONSILIBILTIES:· Weigh, batch, mix, and sample concrete in accordance with standard methods (e.g., ASTM C192).· Perform fresh concrete tests including slump, air content, temperature, and unit weight.· Cast, cure, and test hardened concrete specimens (compressive, flexural, length change, and durability testing).· Sample and test aggregates for gradation, moisture content, and compliance with ASTM C33 or similar standards.· Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment, including compression machines, sieves, mixers, and curing tanks.· Document and report test data clearly and accurately in lab information systems or manual logs.· Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant lab environment, ensuring readiness for daily operations and audits.· Assist with calibration, inventory tracking, and materials management to support overall lab efficiency.· Adhere to all safety protocols and standard operating procedures, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvementREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I certification (required or obtainable within 3 months of hire).
Strong attention to detail and procedural accuracy when performing tests, recording data, and following standardized methods.
Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, or ACI test procedures.
Strong work ethic and ability to manage tasks independently.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Basic computer skills for data entry and digital reporting
· Associate or bachelor's degree in construction technology, physical science, or related field preferred.· High school diploma or GED will be considered with applicable experienceDESIRED SKILLS:
Experience with specialized or non-standard testing protocols.
Familiarity with laboratory quality systems and audit standards, such as: AASHTO Accreditation Program; CCRL (Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory) inspections
Experience working in an R18-compliant laboratory environment, including documentation and proficiency sample program.
