Description :FUNCTION
As a Marketing and Communications Seasonal, you will collaborate closely with the marketing and communications managers to plan, create, and execute special event days. From conceptualization to implementation, your role will be instrumental in curating unforgettable experiences for our guests while ensuring each event resonates with consumer insights and market trends. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and execution of advertising campaigns, content creation, and communication strategies to effectively amplify our brand and engage our target audience. This position is based at our office at Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky. It offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in advertising and communications while contributing to the success of our marketing initiatives.This is not a remote position.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work alongside marketing manager in Derby Week and Spring meet event planning, execution and recaps including event run of show development and planning.
  • Assist in ideation and development of special event concepts and content based on consumer insights and marketplace trends.
  • Provide support during race days and special events as needed, including setup, execution, and post-event evaluation.
  • Assist in organizing on-site promotions, contests, and other event-related activities to enhance the fan experience.
  • Work alongside advertising and Kentucky Derby brand communications manager to assist in Kentucky Derby brand communications and Churchill Downs advertising campaign development.
  • Assist in the coordination of press releases, media relations, and public relations efforts to generate coverage and enhance brand visibility.
  • Work alongside Communications manager to coordinate with external agencies, vendors, and media partners to ensure the timely delivery and placement of advertising materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand identity across all communication channels.
  • Implement all sponsorship, community, and marketing initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, organizing files, and maintaining marketing materials inventory.

*There are times where weekend work and flexibility will be required to help cover live eventsJOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree (preferably in marketing, communications, or a related field).
  • Previous experience in advertising, communications, or marketing roles, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of digital advertising platforms, including Google Ads and Facebook Ads.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • Availability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed, depending on racing schedule and events.

Most of this work is performed in a business office setting within a Sports and Entertainment facility. There will be times when working outside is required. Some areas of the facility may be noisy and subject to changing weather conditions. Performing light physical work required to set up events. Extensive walking is typically requiredMust be able to see, hear, and speak. Long periods of time will be spent working at the computer, reaching, using fingers, interacting with co-workers, managers, and vendors. Must be detail oriented, calm, and remain focused in a very fast-paced and stressful environment.
