Position SummaryThe American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.The Division of Paleontology (Invertebrates) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to assist with activities in support of a collaborative research project investigating biogeography, turnover and evolutionary dynamics of the Late Ordovician mass extinction. This is a one-year, term-limited position.Job duties include:
- Assist with research goals of the grant, including data collection/entry/analysis and manuscript preparation.
- Assist with acquisition (field work), curation and imaging of fossil invertebrate specimens in support of research and outreach goals.
- Assist with outreach programming and dissemination goals of the grant, including content and platform development and conference attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Earth science, geology, evolutionary biology or another related field.
- Interest and/or past experience in research of fossil arthropods, paleontological fieldwork, and/or informal education.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
- Positioning/change of positioning: Must be able to frequently position oneself/body to accomplish job duties.
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending physical structures.
