Job SummaryPosition is a Hybrid schedule and requires to be onsite in Webster, MA (3 days a week/2 days remote)Territory is Northern MA (Worcester and Middlesex counties)Responsible for managing the business development and sales of products for assigned territories. Oversees Business Development Representatives for the implementation of programs and policies designed to increase product volume. Manages the execution of territory and regional business plans including business development. Supports key accounts in assigned territories and drives growth and sales for independent agent business, including Branch agents.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducation: Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.
Experience: 7 - 9 years or Associates Degree equivalent plus 9 - 11 years.
Knowledge: Complete understanding and knowledge of industry, practices, standards, and concepts within field of work and broad business segment. Solid knowledge of management practices.
Decision Making: Influences development of overall objectives including long-range goals for the organization. Typically exercises judgment within broadly defined policies and practices. Establishes, modifies operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate units. Recommends modifications to broad operating policies which may impact projects, operations, and considerable expenditure risk and major portions of operations. Problems are generally diverse, complex and impact major business segments.
  • Insurance broker's or agent's license and or property and casualty insurance designations preferred. Superior knowledge of the independent agent base and competitors in assigned territory
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, planning and organizational skills
  • Proven track record in sales and people management
  • Ability to work independently with remote supervision
  • Strong level of proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Manages the performance and development of territory Business Development Representatives and sales programs designed to increase premium volume of targeted lines of business
  • Ensures increased sales and productivity by locating and appointing new business prospects and new alternative channel opportunities to increase market share. Visit agents and evaluate each agency business and market share
  • Reviews and creates reports based on local market knowledge, competitor analysis as well as assigned agencies overall production and loss ratios. Responsible for overall profitability of assigned agencies, including Branch agents
  • Develops strong relationships with agents to increase production and profitability. Keeps agents informed of product enhancements and suggests methods to improve performance
  • Works directly with Business Development Representatives to ensure underwriting guidelines and policies are adhered to as well as liaison with agencies
  • Oversees training of new products / web enabled systems with agency force (Personal Auto, Commercial Lines)
  • Administers training, development and sales production for “partner agencies” and others as applicable
  • Solicits and negotiates prospective agency appointments and/or book transfers
  • Analyzes and participates within the Agency Evaluation Committee on a quarterly basis profitability of agencies as well as monitoring agencies on probation
