
Director of Business Development, Commercial Space

- Lead, plan, and manage activities surrounding the identification, pursuit, and capture of new commercial business opportunities that leverage Maxar core competencies and discriminated capabilities.
- Provide portfolio oversight on all aspects of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) that includes steps to develop and execute growth strategies, identify new business opportunities, establish pursuit priorities, gain and grow customer intimacy, and develop successful capture plans.
- Lead the coordination of assigned Mission Architects, Chief Engineers, technical leads, and Program Managers in the development of tailored solutions in response to discerned customer needs, formulation/execution of capture plans and strategies, pursuit and proposal activities, and customer relationship management.
- Drive the preparation, review, and delivery of high-quality, responsive solutions to both captive and competitively pursued opportunities, leading internal teams to prepare proposals, rough order of magnitude estimates, and responses to requests for information that are informed by strong customer engagement and competitive intelligence.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with current and new customers. Gain recognition as a trusted and respected representative of Maxar, and influence program awards consistent with customer requirements and Maxar objectives.
- Develop and track a pipeline of opportunities that meets the quarterly and annual operating plan.
- Lead the Space Capture team in securing approval from senior leadership for new commercial space opportunities through business case generation and margin analysis.
- Produce executive summaries and analyses regularly to provide the needed insights for key business decisions.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and analyses to evaluate potential opportunities and provide bid / no-bid recommendations consistent with the Space Capture vision and strategy.
- Proactively identify performance indicators and key areas for analysis to inform constant improvement in the capture process, training gaps, market trends, etc.
- Serve as consultant for future systems designs to enable improved decision making to deliver value-added capability to Maxar products for our customers.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Science Discipline
- 10 years experience in business development in the Commercial Space Market
- Approximately 20% travel, both domestic and international
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Experience in international business development desired
