- Responsible for monitoring the Firelands Health Leave of Absence options, including Family and Medical Leave. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of open communication between the employee, supervisor and Human Resources to ensure the leave of absence has the least impact possible on the delivery of service. Reviews leave applications for appropriate medical documentation. Prepares correspondence relating to all leaves and advises employees of FMLA approval dates.
- Maintains reports and data regarding FMLA requests, certification, clarification, and physician responses. Responsible for documenting all required phone contacts and appropriately updating the Time and Attendance system to identify FMLA related leaves.
- Maintains a monthly log of all FMLA usage. Provides formal reports and charts to the appropriate Vice Presidents as needed.
- Responsible for presenting educational updates to the management team and employees regarding changes in the law regarding FMLA or related topics.
- Coordinates Short Term Disability and Hospital Indemnity benefits for employees on leave of absence.
- Responsible for placement of injured workers into modified duty assignments within the identified restrictions of the employee’s attending physician. The HR Generalist ensures that employees injured through a work-related injury experience minimal lost time. Responsible for certifying/denying all workers’ compensation claims. Disseminates paperwork to appropriate individuals and maintains all logs (OSHA and Dashboard).
- Responsible for developing a workplace safety program to improve awareness to the Firelands Health safety initiatives.
- Processes COBRA notifications (initial and terminated)
- Assist with medical claims management
- Actively participates in the benefit quarterly review process and assist with benefit design changes
- Assist with processing federal and state mandatory filings
- Coordinates the annual Employee Benefits Fair
- Assists with communicating benefit changes to impacted employees
- Benefit data entry management for new hires
- Assists with creation and management of the annual benefits open enrollment process
- Assists with administration of the defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource with clinical experience preferred.
- Three (3) years of related experience. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of workers’ compensation, FMLA, and ADA laws. Experience in absence management and integrated disability management is strongly desired.
- Excellent analytical, written and communication skills.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with employees, physicians, hospital departments at all levels, state agencies, and external agencies. Must be comfortable presenting to large groups for training and education purposes.
- Ability to perform in a work team environment.
- Must have technical and/or PC skills sufficient to have working knowledge of multiple software programs, i.e. Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel, UltiPro etc.
- Must be capable of creating Power Point presentations, graphs, charts, and dashboard reports that accurately reflect leave usage.
- Working knowledge of current human resources/workers’ compensation laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g. FMLA, OSHA, etc.)
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
