DescriptionMaple Lane (ML)/Brockmann Campuses combine bed inpatient psychiatric RTFs and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ML/Brockmann provides long-term inpatient treatment for both civilly committed residents with serious mental illnesses and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity residents eligible for community access (at Maple Lane only). People are referred to these residential treatment facility (RTF) beds through the Behavioral Health Organization under a civil court order or a referral process through the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA).In this role, as an Admission Coordinator, you will conduct centralized screening of both civil and forensic residents to determine if the resident is appropriate for placement at either the Maple Lane or Brockmann Campuses. You will be required to accomplish appropriate placement decisions on time using established screening criteria, documentation, and information from case discovery, records from the state hospitals, and on occasion contact with jail staff. You will oversee one Competency Restoration Unit, the Steilacoom Unit, and will work closely with the Central Admissions Coordinator on those referrals. You will gather and/or prepare all the necessary paperwork and coordinate with all internal & external partners/departments to ensure that every step of the admission process is planned and executed in a manner that provides safe and effective placements of civil and forensic residents into appropriate BHA Residential Treatment Facility Programs.What needs to be done first?
  • Assess RTF's existing treatment programs and allocate them for each type of treatment offered.
  • Develop, review, and refine referral packets from courts, state hospitals, and Olympic Heritage Behavioral Health (OHBH) RTF admission process
  • Start filling the vacant beds per the admission criteria this position will be revised to fit the Maple Lane and Brockmann Campus populations
Let's fast forward 6 to 12 months:
  • Support overall management and direction of the competency restoration Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) patient care services, allocation of resources, active treatment and clinical programming, and system collaboration.
  • Collect information about the referred residents pertinent to admission criteria of the Maple Lane and Brockmann Campuses.
Some of what you'll do.
  • Determine appropriate programs for court-referred residents based on available information, admission criteria, and discussions with staff.
  • Develop, revise, and update the Maple Lane and Brockmann Campuses admission criteria in collaboration with the policy manager and deputy executive officer.
  • Educate the leadership on both campuses about the screening criteria and the consultation process.
  • Monitor and track the bed availability of the Brockmann and Maple Lane Campuses units.
  • Build strategic relationships to inform an admissions process with community referral partners such as designated crisis responders (DCR) and evaluation and treatment centers
  • Work closely with the BHA Bed Utilization Director to maintain census in all programs.
  • Work closely with the OFMHS Central Forensic Admission Coordinator on referrals to the one competency restoration unit.
  • Participate in the development and ongoing use of quality assurance standards and performance improvement metrics
  • Review and make recommendations for adjustments in the admission criteria of the different locations.
  • Provide forensic and civil treatment referral information to the assistant attorney generals for legal hearings regarding the timeliness of admissions.

  • Master's degree in public health administration, psychology, sociology, social work, social sciences, nursing, or other relevant field AND three years of professional experience working in a psychiatric hospital or other institutional setting with duties including patient/resident treatment, assessment or evaluation, or other relevant experience working with residents/residents.
OR
  • Bachelor's degree in public health administration, psychology, sociology, social work, social sciences, nursing, or other relevant field AND five years of professional experience working in a psychiatric hospital or other institutional settings with duties including patient/resident treatment, assessment, or evaluation, reviewing referrals or other relevant experience working with residents.
Preferred qualifications/experience and certification
  • Knowledge of forensic and civil mental health services, including competency restoration services.
  • Demonstrated competency in working with residents from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with management, peers, residents, and others in a psychiatric hospital or other residential setting.
