Origination ManagerStrategy & Business Development · Houston, Texas, United States · Full-timeSalary: $135k – 150k with up to 15% BonusLocation: Houston / HybridJob SummaryThe successful candidate will have industry experience, a background providing commercial, or origination support associated with utility or corporate transactions for solar or renewable energy projects. The candidate will be a self-managed team-player with excellent communication & writing skills, attention to detail and has the ability to effectively manage or support a wide range of task that an Independent Power Producer (IPP) is involved with. The candidate will support Commercial Origination activities and may change over time as the company expands. This role will be an important position involved with all aspects of proposal development, commercialization of utility scale projects and close coordination with other internal teams and processes. This role will require coordination with internal/external resources and clients, supporting various task required to develop a proposal, obtain internal governance and approvals required to advance the transaction forward.Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the commercial, project development and other internal teams to pursue contract opportunities (PPA, VPPA, M&A), and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to pursue transactions which contribute towards achieving commercial KPI’s and the overall goals of company.
  • Work with team members to develop or contribute content for bi-weekly presentations, ad-hoc presentations, and reports.
  • Research and support activities related to industry policy or regulatory issues that may have an impact on projects, understand and identify risk factors relevant to commercializing the project.
  • Facilitate collection of market intel, industry trends and competitor activities.
  • Lead discussions with team members to develop project overviews, proposals, and other deliverables required to commercialize a project or for internal governance.
  • Lead and participate in initiating and advancing tasks forward related to commercialization, timelines, and deliverables supported by cross-functional teams.
  • Lead and participate in discussions with internal teams, identifying project risk and stage of development so that a commercialization plan can be developed.
  • Facilitate various internal governance or key decision point processes.
  • Support the development of team KPI’s, participate in discussions related to other internal department KPI’s, including development of internal presentations and meetings with senior management and leadership.
  • Lead department’s efforts to support data management and reporting within CRM and ProCore.
  • Lead tracking of relevant market RFP’s, RFI’s and work with leadership to identify and qualify opportunities.
  • Lead and manage coordination with internal departments as required to pursue commercial business opportunities, working through steps necessary to qualify and obtain approvals to move origination activities forward.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience, managing commercial and technical aspects of pursuing business opportunities or transactions.
  • 3+ years of solar industry experience preferred; experience working for a Utility, IPP, or Developer is a plus.
  • Experience with project management, managing time sensitive activities, coordinating commercial and technical submittals, or governance presentations.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work both individually and/or in a collaborative team environment with minimal guidance.
  • Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities, developing and maintaining internal and external relationships as new business opportunities are pursued.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to coordinate and communicate across a broad range of commercial and technical discussions.
  • Must have strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and be able to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities as required.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry topics, project development and contract origination is helpful but not required.
  • Results-oriented with a strong commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.
Location: Houston Office preferred, or Hybrid working may be acceptable for this role and will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
