Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for an Operations Engineer at our East Chicago, Indiana operation. The Operations Engineer is responsible for supporting our operating departments and ensuring that departments are aligned to obtain optimum results. The Ideal candidates will be a self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Work safely to improve reliability and quality following all required safety policies.
  • Consult with current technical personnel and corporate R & D personnel as required.
  • Evaluate existing practices used for the melting, refining, and casting of steel, the heating and rolling of blooms and rails, and the in-line heat treatment operation.
  • Ensure existing practices are adequate to address all items critical to producing the best quality steel at the competitive costs.
  • Develop new control plans and review existing documents to align with current customer and Cleveland-Cliffs best practices.
  • Supply best practices to operating departments for continued improvement in reliability.
  • Investigate and implement continuous improvements projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Science/Engineering.
  • Experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Good troubleshooting and team building skills.
  • Ability to lift more than 25 pounds on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical or Materials Engineering
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting.
