The Department of BioSciences sponsors the following undergraduate major concentrations in BioSciences: Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Genetics, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Integrative Biology. We are investigating fundamental properties of living organisms and impacts on the future quality of life on earth.In support of the department's educational mission, the successful candidate for the Teaching Laboratory Manager will help in the management of laboratory courses in BioSciences. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and prior experience in a laboratory classroom, either as a lab assistant or a student research or teaching assistant.Workplace Requirements: This is an in-person position at Rice University in Houston, Texas. The Teaching Laboratory Manager will also be required to assist with driving a full-size rental passenger van to/from campus on course field trip days.Proposed Hiring Range: $48,000 - $52,900 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience.Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 year of related experience
  • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • Must be able to drive a 15-passenger rental van pursuant to
and pertaining to motor vehicle rentals. * Licenses / Certifications: Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment) required with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past three years.Skills

Preferences
  • Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences
  • Prior experience in a laboratory classroom and/or field research site, either as a lab assistant or a student research or teaching assistant.
Essential Functions
  • Manages laboratory and assists with setting up the laboratory
  • Coordinates the day-to-day technical operations in the lab and field
  • Procures research materials and supplies for the laboratory and field
  • Ensures and promotes lab/field safety and routine laboratory/field hygiene
  • Maintains laboratory and field apparatus and equipment
  • Supervises students in the lab and assists with local field trips
  • Trains students regarding research techniques
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
