Contract Length: 1 yearAbout the Role:We are seeking highly skilled, attentive, and detail-oriented Safety Drivers to join our client’s autonomous vehicle testing team in Dallas, TX. This role places you at the cutting edge of autonomous vehicle technology, playing a crucial part in the development and safe deployment of innovative self-driving systems.As a Safety Driver, you will operate autonomous vehicles in real-world environments, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance at all times. You will work closely with engineers, riders, and operational teams to provide feedback, monitor vehicle performance, and contribute to the evolution of autonomous vehicle technology.Key Responsibilities:
- Operate autonomous vehicles safely and in accordance with all traffic laws and company protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-operation vehicle inspections and prepare vehicles daily for testing.
- Monitor system performance and environmental conditions, providing detailed reports on vehicle behavior and safety events.
- Collaborate with engineers and operations personnel to relay critical feedback and support continuous improvements.
- Maintain constant vigilance and situational awareness to anticipate and respond to unexpected hazards on the road.
- Uphold strict safety standards during all operations, including in adverse weather and complex urban environments.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions with riders, engineers, and team members.
- Minimum of 3 years valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record (no DUIs or drug/alcohol offenses in last 5 years).
- Proven experience as an autonomous vehicle operator, instructor, or in a role demanding exceptional driving skills and safety commitment.
- Strong knowledge of local traffic laws and defensive driving techniques.
- Experience with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) or autonomous vehicle technologies preferred.
- Ability to remain alert and focused during extended driving periods (4-8 hours daily).
- Excellent communication skills and high attention to detail.
- Comfortable driving in various weather conditions and on different types of roads.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays and potential weekends, with shifts ranging from 6 AM to 11 PM.
- Certification in defensive or safe driving courses.
- Familiarity with vehicle diagnostic tools and autonomous vehicle control systems.
- Prior experience working with proprietary AV hardware/software or Linux-based systems.
- Competitive hourly pay of $24 - $28 based on experience.
