Job Summary:Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing programs/activities, in relation to the career development core service for members ages 14-18. Manage and maintain community bike shop and serve as partner manager to Dream Bikes, Milwaukee Bublr & other community cycling entities..Responsibilities:
Prepares, trains youth for job employment opportunities with an educational and career pathway focus on bicycle repair, bicycle safety, basic mechanical engineering.
Provide career exploration exposure to members in the area of bicycle mechanics, skilled trades, manufacturing, business and retail career clusters and civic and community engagement.
Supervises members engaged in quality activities to achieve goals and outcome measurements via academic & career planning through Career Cruising and national career readiness certificate through Key Train/Work Keys.
Facilitate job readiness training and expose youth to financial education and precollege programs and employment opportunities.
Manage operations of BGC B!ke Bike Shop with bikes, which are repaired by trained youth workers and available free or low cost to the community.
Assist with the repair of bike donations at site and community events for giveaway during annual Cyclo Claus event as well as annual bike sale.
Pick up trailer, travel to designated Boys & Girls Clubs sites to conduct drop in bike repair, and deliver repaired bikes, helmets, and locks during the summer.
Prepares members for work opportunity and continued trainings in retail and customer service for placements at Dream Bikes & Milwaukee Bublr.
Assists with implementation and participates in programs, projects, and special events within Core Program Areas.
Encourages emotional, social, and educational growth of individual members.
Recruits and leads members in field trips and outings for our members.
Pick up bike donations.
Assist with maintaining bike storage facility, retailer and inventory.
State enrolled work permit officer and issues work permits to youth workers enrolled in the program.
Develops and maintains an attractive bulletin board, posters, and banners in the Club.
Engagement with local bicycle shops and bicycling community for employment, civic, and community engagement opportunities.
Provides written documentation of program implementation and evaluation.
Tracks member participation in assigned program area and documents results and progress of members.
Generate monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports as requested.
Must meet required deadlines.
Must participate in required trainings by the Club, County, State, and/or funders
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma and 6 childcare related credits.
Experience Requirements:
At least two years of experience as a mechanic in a bike repair shop.
At least one year of experience directly related to urban youth and youth development.
Within 6 months of hire:
CPRSuspected Child Abuse-Mandated Report Training (SCAN-MART)Shaken Baby Prevention Training, if requiredRegistry Level 7 or higher, if required.Skills:
Enjoys working with youth ages 14-18 years old.
Demonstrated examples of working with youth.
Repair skills, Critical Thinking, Active Listening, Troubleshooting and Manual Dexterity.
Use of welding equipment, painting equipment and bicycle repair tools.
Small group implementation.
Highly organized with attention to detail.
Ability to relate effectively with diverse population
Ability to facilitate NCRC & Career Cruising
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Must have a valid WI driver’s license, good driving record, and meets state required automobile insurance minimums.
