Careers at DPH Work that makes a difference!Embracing Service, Inspiring Innovation, Promoting Teamwork, Pursuing Excellence, and Advancing EquityThis position is located in the Microbiology Division/Mycobacteriology area within the Public Health Laboratory located at 8231 Parklane Rd, Columbia, SC 29203Directly supervises the Mycobacteriology section, including identifying training needs and overseeing training, and the evaluation for the competency of personnel. This includes ensuring that staff are cross trained throughout the laboratory and that staffing schedules are appropriate to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.Performs and interprets routine, complex, and sophisticated tests for isolation, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility of mycobacteria.Responsible for maintaining CLIA compliance in the Mycobacteriology section. This includes oversight of the quality assurance system and monitoring of quality control. Ensures monthly monitors are filled out in a timely fashion and are accurate and complete and that all policies and procedures are up to date. Oversees inventory of reagents, equipment and supplies used in the section; prepares quarterly orders and special orders as needed, delegates requisition of routine equipment and supplies; keeps informed of new equipment and diagnostic materials, evaluates their application and performance and discusses purchase of equipment and validations of new procedures with Division Director.Consults with physicians and other persons outside agency by telephone, letters and memos concerning interpretation of test results, tests availability, and additional information needed for testing. May perform other related duties as assigned.State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in medical technology, microbiology, biochemistry or a closely related field and work experience as a medical technologist in a supervisory, teaching or consulting capacity.Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.Agency Additional Requirements:Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application may upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application.
