Primary:
- Lead the development of vision architecture for multiple module system and the engineering team.
- Program vision systems for cam, servo, and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices.
- Ensure the vision design is functional, robust, and cost effective.
- Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate ATS LSS Chicago standards and regulatory requirements.
- Research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed.
- Guide Electricians in wiring and codes. Support software validation requirements.
- Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
- Work under the confines of the project schedule and budget.
- Problem-solve with Mechanical Builders, debug software issues, and update all appropriate documentation.
- Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineering and build and exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of ATS LSS Chicago internal and international standards.
- Set and maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives.
- Support and participate in quality management program.
- Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery operating manuals.
- Make recommendations for quality and cost improvements.
- Keeps abreast of current product developments.
- Domestic or international travel or extend workday if required.
- Must possess a valid passport (or be able to obtain one) for periodic travel outside of the United States.
- Bachelors in electrical engineering, engineering related field or equivalent experience.
- Three (3) to six (6) years of vision automation experience.
- Primary: Proficiency with Cognex Insight and ATS Cortex vision systems.
- Secondary: Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC's, HMI's, Servo control and electrical design.
- Computers, including programs such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Microsoft Office suite and ATS LSS Chicago databases, etc.
- Fax machine, copiers and printers/plotters, etc.
- Inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, multi-meters, dB meters, etc.
- The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
- Visual acuity - Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
- Hearing ability - Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
- Working conditions - The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.
- Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
