This project presents an opportunity to design a network of coordinated living shoreline structures or ‘Living Shorelines Network’ in collaboration with the PACIT and other external partners as a key strategy for protecting the community from future storm impacts and flooding, while honoring the Tribe’s cultural heritage and priorities.Job Responsibilities:-Assist project team leads with coordination activities that include Tribe member and external partner engagement and project-related outreach activities. (40%)-Participatory mapping meeting facilitation, qualitative data collection and analyses, and knowledge co-production activities to inform the development of a Living Shorelines Site Suitability Model (LSSSM). (40%)-Serve as the designated data manager for the project. This individual will be the point of contact regarding data submission questions to the project's online data repository and will also receive emails when anyone in the project submits a dataset information form or dataset. Other duties as assigned.(20%)Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in geography, sociology, anthropology, social-ecological systems science, environmental planning, or another related social science discipline; Have an interest in working on interdisciplinary, community-engaged research related to nature-based solutions to coastal climate hazards in the U.S. South. A successful applicant will also have exceptional attention to detail, the ability to communicate clearly in written and oral forms, and the ability to work independently and proactively in a dynamic, collaborative environment.Preferred Qualifications:Ideal applicants will have:
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research, stakeholder engagement, knowledge co-production, and community-engagement,
  • Training and research experience with geospatial data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS),
  • Knowledge about the impacts of climate change on coastal ecosystems and human communities, nature-based solutions to climate hazards, and community-level socio-environmental issues in the U.S. South.
