Job Category: Civil/StructuralDegree Level: High School Graduate or GEDJob Description:Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Senior Civil Structural Designer to join our Engineering office located in Charlotte, North Carolina. This exciting role involves the application of general design practices on steel and concrete structures utilizing CADD for creation of models and design drawings. The ideal candidate will lead others within their discipline to successfully complete project assignments and provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, and installation supervision.Responsibilities:Perform as a senior professional and lead designer able to supervise and instruct other designer and drafter personnel in the development of complex structural engineering drawings and models that meet client requirements, applicable codes, and specifications.Coordinate and schedule the work of a team in a particular groupSelect and recommend procedures in design and prepare preliminary designs for engineers' approval.Develop detailed design documents (structural steel & concrete) in a 2D and 3D environment.Participate in project planning and preparation.Assist in estimating project design and drafting manpower requirements.Check and analyze drawings prepared within the team for dimensional accuracy, spelling, CADD and drafting standards, neatness, completeness, along with applicable codes, project specifications, and established discipline standards before being released to the approving engineers.Check and analyze models prepared within the team for accuracy, completeness, and interferences.Communicate with the project discipline engineers and designers to resolve any design problems with the manufacturer's drawings or interferences.Coordinate with client and construction personnel to ensure the client's input and job requirements are adequately addressed and implemented consistently with the contractual requirements.Ensure the company quality assurance manual and standard operating procedures are followed in completion of assigned tasks.Check vendor shop drawings and construction drawings.Train and instruct new employees in the use of CADD software and discipline reference resources.Qualifications:High school diploma (Associate's or Bachelor's with drafting coursework preferred).Minimum 12 years of in-depth design experience within petrochemical, refining, pharmaceutical, or power plant construction projects.Advance proficiency working with Cad Worx, Navisworks, E3D, Bluebeam, Laser Scans (AVEVA 3D or PDMS Software, Point Cloud Manager and Recap).Understanding of advanced thermal expansion and basic dynamic Stress analysis principles.Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Front-End Loading (FEL) / Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) project execution.Advanced knowledge of expansion joint design and the characteristics of different types.Proficient in developing cost estimates (e.g., using Icarus) within the FEL/FEED framework.Advanced understanding of project planning and forecasting, with some exposure to earned value management.Advanced proficiency in identifying project changes and a foundational understanding of change management processes, with the ability to communicate these to Project Leads.Comprehensive knowledge of schedule development, including predecessor/successor relationships and supporting resource loading.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in Construction Support, Mechanical Completion, and Plant Startup and Commissioning.Significant experience providing on-site project support.Proven track record of supporting large greenfield and brownfield project execution.L1-C1
