- Identify New Opportunities: Proactively seek out and identify potential business opportunities in the commercial construction industry.
- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and industry professionals.
- Strategic Planning: Create and implement strategic plans to achieve business growth and market expansion.
- Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape.
- Sales Leadership: Lead and mentor the business development team, setting clear goals and expectations.
- Proposal Management: Oversee the preparation and submission of construction bids and proposals, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
- Client Management: Manage key client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
- Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on business development activities, sales performance, and market insights.
- Relative experience: 8-10 years of business development experience with 3-5 years of this experience being in the construction industry (i.e., General Contractor, Construction Manager, Design-Builder, etc.) is preferred.
- Sales: Previous sales experience in Life Sciences, Aviation + Aerospace, and/or Industrial + Manufacturing, Food & Beverage and Data center markets is preferred. Experience must be substantiated through recent and existing client relationships.
- Proposals: Experience supported by an in-depth understanding of the various stages of qualifications-based proposal/presentation methods (e.g., Design-Build, Construction Management at Risk, etc.), is preferred.
- Interpersonal: Able to work well with and persuade people at all levels of an organization. Works well in a group environment and fosters a team-first approach/mindset. Seeks ways to provide mutual internal support to others.
- Goal-Oriented: Able to establish SMART goals and achieve them (i.e., Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound).
- Organized: Able to plan, prioritize, organize, multi-task, and monitor activities and opportunities.
- Communication: Excellent oral presentation and written skills. Understands the services they are selling evidenced by an ability to draft/edit/review written proposal content. Openly shares/communicates all known sales lead information with their business development team members.
- Travel: Willingness to travel as required for client meetings and industry events.
- Compliance: Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
- Ability to lift and carry office supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds
