Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, slope mower and excavator when performing maintenance activities on the ditching crew. This includes daily pre trip and post trip inspections on equipment. Operates medium equipment such as Belt Loader, Skid Steer, Tandem Axle Dump Truck, Tri-Axle Dump Truck in conjunction and with highway maintenance operations. Regrades roadway shoulders and ditches for positive drainage. Installs, constructs, or repairs sideline and cross line pipes. Performs right of way vegetation management. This includes daily Pre Trip and Post Trip inspections on equipment requiring a CDL per federal law and SCDOT policy. Operates small equipment such as broom tractor, pipe washer, brush chipper, chainsaw, dump truck, pole saw, snow plow, or spreader. Operates heavy equipment such as tractor with ditcher and motor grader. This includes daily pre trip and post trip inspections on equipment. Conducts daily preventative maintenance activities on all crew equipment to ensure that equipment is greased and lubricated, proper coolant and oil (engine and hydraulic) levels are maintained, hoses and belts are inspected deterioration, tires are properly inflated, and no leaks are present. Reports problems to shop for repair. Flags traffic for roadway maintenance. Sets up traffic control devices such as cones and signs. Wears PPE per SCDOT policy. Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations, including extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
