- Decides disposition of all Cast House production ingots based on internal operating limits and confers non-conforming ingots for further testing.
- Insures transmission of analytical data to appropriate shop floor systems.
- Insures all electronic data files contain correct data from analyses and dispositions.
- Reviews drop samples and special analyses in relation to internal operating limits to determine reliability and acceptability of spectrochemical analyses.
- Releases ingots, or prepares for other disposition based on wet analytical analyses.
- Prepares samples for analysis by Analytical Chemist.
- Coordinates the Cast House Ingot Identification System.
- Maintains handwritten and electronic current listing of cast number series and assigns cast numbers to production ingots.
- Performs drop number assignments electronically to Cast House furnaces for charge calculation/production records.
- Assigns cast numbers to individual drops for approved ingot conversions and executes electronic conversions to update databases in Ingot Inventory.
- Coordinates the retention and storage of ingot chemistry files and samples.
- Transfers all analytical data from quantometer to Cast House automation system and monitors transfer completion.
- Reviews and updates permanent analytical storage and ingot disposition files; initiates hardcopy reports including hardcopies of electronic furnace chemistry logbooks for laboratory reference.
- Calibrates, standardizes and maintains analytical equipment.
- Performs regression analyses to establish analytical working curves.
- Selects appropriate certified metal reference materials for quantometer calibration and standardization.
- Troubleshoots instruments to determine problem areas.
- Takes appropriate action.
- Conducts metallurgical testing for casting support.
- Collects and analyzes bi-gas flux mixture for key components on timely basis.
- Interprets analytical information from gas chromatograph and determines integrity of analysis for resampling or more frequent monitoring.
- Promptly notifies cast house foreman and if needed Cast House maintenance supervision of out of specification limits.
- Supports water process control by analyzing casting units and monitors argon gas levels on each shift.
- Monitors Casting Operation Information systems to observe status of operation and alert Production supervision of issues.
- Requires college degree preferably in a technical field and/or equivalent lab experience in spark emission spectroscopy.
- A general knowledge of computer operations is required.
- Must work with independently meticulous attention to detail, must possess good communication skills and follows established health and safety policies and procedures.
