Job Title: Director - International Trade ComplianceReports to: VP of ProcurementLocation: Southfield, MI - OnsiteJob Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Trade Compliance Director to oversee and ensure adherence to international and domestic trade regulations while managing logistics operations. The ideal candidate will develop compliance programs, lead audits, and facilitate the seamless movement of goods across borders. This role also involves overseeing outsourced compliance relationships, managing record retention, and optimizing logistics performance.Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement an international trade compliance program, including risk assessments, compliance manuals, and training programs.
  • Provide expert guidance and consultation to business units on trade compliance matters, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations.
  • Monitor compliance with domestic and international trade laws, including export control laws, customs regulations, and trade sanctions.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of import/export activities to identify risks and implement best practices.
  • Manage relationships with compliance companies, customs brokers, and ocean freight operations, including rate negotiations and performance management.
  • Ensure effective processes for annual qualification solicitation, handling exclusions, and managing drawback procedures.
  • Liaise with government agencies, customs brokers, shipping lines, and port authorities to facilitate seamless trade operations.

  • Optimize ocean freight costs and shipping routes to achieve cost savings and improve delivery timelines.
  • Leverage data analytics to identify consolidation opportunities and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Stay updated on evolving international trade laws and regulations, communicating relevant updates across the organization.
  • Lead trade compliance-related inquiries and disputes in collaboration with business units.
  • Supervise and provide strategic direction to a logistics analyst to support logistics and trade compliance functions.
Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree desired in supply chain or related field, or equivalent working experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in international trade compliance or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Industry certifications such as Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Export Specialist (CES), or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) are a plus
  • Ability to travel 25%
