The Medical Assist Device Coordinator Focuses on support of the Elective bridge to transplant mechanical assist device, and the Long Term bridge durable ventricular assist device. The Medical Assist Device Coordinator effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.

In fact, we are the one of the top programs in the region, with a team that regularly ranks in the top 5 nationally. We were also one of the first hospitals in the region to offer VADs and continue to pioneer advances in VAD technology.
· Adult congenital heart disease: Vanderbilt has the only program in the region with specialists who are board certified in treating adults with congenital heart disease.

- Coordinates the evaluation phase for patients with severe ventricular dysfunction ensuring evaluation requirements are complete.
- Manages pre-operative preparation ensuring patient, staff and system are fully prepared for device implantation.
- Provides VAD expertise to clinical team from evaluation through outpatient care.
- Maintains clinical expertise in all devices and required clinical care and able to conduct technical consultations for devices if needed.
- Coordinates all aspects of discharge planning.
- Participates in outpatient management in support of optimal outcomes.

NURSING PATIENT ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION (NOVICE):- Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Demonstrates sufficient acumen to recognize problems, ask questions and to contact the patient's primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team. Has experience in gathering pertinent clinical data that aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
CARE PLANNING (NOVICE):- Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Competently handles multiple assignments often simultaneously by prioritizing work into manageable and measurable units. Ability to adapt to changes to patient care and area needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Follows up to assure problems and issues are resolved.
