Position DescriptionSeattle Public Utilities (SPU) has an opportunity open for a Senior Station Maintenance Machinist within the Utility Operations & Maintenance Division of the Shared Services Branch. This position serves to maintain Drainage & Wastewater equipment and facilities, requiring vast institutional knowledge as well as understanding of emerging technologies.This is a senior position, requiring senior level knowledge, providing lead direction to other workers, and participating in the more complex and difficult work. Machine at close tolerance to provide needed partsthat would otherwise be unavailable; install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water, wastewater, CSO, and mechanical equipment, including assets in all DWW pump stations. Reassemble and conduct full load operational testing.Install, maintain, and repair various facilities equipment and systems: overhead bridge cranes, HVAC and record units, ventilation and confined space fan systems, fixed ladders and handrails, grating and decking, equipment control water supply systems, domestic waters supply systems, and, and floor drain piping systems.Ability to read blueprints and make cost-effective recommendations.Conducts preventive maintenance and inspection activities on air compressors and pumping equipment.Please note this job advertisement is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.QualificationsExperience: Three (3) years previous journey-level machinist/millwright experience or four (4) years of machine work/mechanical repair experience.Education and Experience Equivalency:Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.Special Conditions:
Requires considerable physical exertion. Requires working around potentially hazardous equipment or chemicals, raw sewage, toxic gases, rotating machinery, high voltage, high water pressure, and heavy equipment. Occasionally requires working at heights, depths or in confined and awkward work areas, inclement weather conditions, fall, slip and trip hazards, and live traffic. Will be required to be on call 24 hours a day, and to work extended shifts, as required. Employees may be required to work any shift or schedule.License: At the time of appointment must hold a valid .Desired Qualifications:City institutional knowledge of equipment design and repair.CSO & Pump Station maintenance and troubleshooting experience.Journeyperson level machining experience utilizing conventional machines.Pump and valve repair experience.Reciprocating and rotary screw compressor rebuilding and troubleshooting.Electric motor repair.TIG welding experience.Industrial blueprint readingMaximo, PeopleSoft, and related systems experience.Improvisation ability for redesigns and repairs.Excellent collaboration and communication skills.Additional InformationHow to Apply: Please fully complete an online application and supplemental questions.
