
Court Recorder/Technology Specialist

- Creates verbatim records of all court proceedings using computerized or recording methods. Prepares official verbatim transcripts of court proceedings.
- Assists judge with case files in the courtroom.
- Prepares confidential documents; maintains confidential files and records and ensures the integrity of confidential materials.
- Provides back-up regarding sensitive and confidential matters (e.g., payroll, leave requests) in the absence of the Trial Division Director.
- Prepares transcripts for matters on appeal and other proceedings, as ordered.
- Monitors operational effectiveness of courtroom technology and provides training, as necessary, regarding new or modified applications.
- Acts as liaison between the court, county IT staff, and courtroom technology vendors.
- Assists customers on the phone and at the counters, explaining court policy and procedures.
- Schedules court proceedings prepares Notices to Appear and Proofs of Service.
- Reviews orders drafted by attorneys/parties for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with appropriate court rules and statutes; obtains judicial signatures or explains required procedures for obtaining judicial approval.
- Performs other Court Clerk, ADR Clerk, or Felony Collections Clerk duties, as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be certified by the State of Michigan as a Certified Shorthand Reporter or a Certified Electronic Recorder within 6 months of employment.Additional Requirements and InformationRequired Knowledge and Skills: * Working knowledge of Michigan Court Rules.
- Working knowledge of court administrative procedures and practices.
- Thorough knowledge of civil and criminal, domestic relations, and Friend of the Court processes.
- Excellent knowledge of legal terminology.
- Excellent knowledge of court recording protocols and requirements and the proper use of court recording equipment.
- Excellent working knowledge of courtroom technology.
- Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Fast and accurate keyboarding skills.
- Excellent knowledge of privacy requirements related to court records.
- Understanding of strict confidentiality requirements.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of the Michigan Court Reporters Manual and court recorder requirements.
Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation, including but not limited to, visual and/or audiological appliances and devices to increase mobility. Will be required to sit for several hours at a time.Working Conditions:
