Overview:Knowledge Services is seeking a remote and part-time GIS Administrator for a contract through Feb 2026 (potential for extension) with the State of Maine Office of Technology.
  • This role will work approximately 10-20 hours per week
  • We are unable to consider any candidates requiring C2C or sponsorship for a work visa.
Responsibilities:GIS Administrator Responsibilities:
  • This position will support MEGIS to reduce the current backlog of work that has built up and is part of the large upgrades that have most recently been complete.
  • Will provide critical technical support for the Maine Office GIS and the GeoLibrary Board.
  • Will provide maintenance/support of the geospatial infrastructure (ArcGIS & SDE) and other systems that support MEGIS and the GeoLibrary board.
  • This includes the project planning and coordination of its enhancements and other software enhancements, ensuring they adhere to OIT’s software development and deployment policies.
  • Support the enterprise GIS and the MEGIS geodatabases for Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Manage scripts, models, and tools to support agency users of the GIS environment.
  • Help design the architecture to accommodate new/emerging GIS technologies to meet State’s needs.
  • Install, configure, tune, monitor and maintain the State’s geodatabase and enterprise GIS within the Azure environment software.
  • Support the deployment of geographic information components, data services and applications within the State’s secure IT infrastructure to meet industry and department standards defined in the MaineIT governance policies.
  • Support/Maintain of ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3, Portal for ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online in a multiuser environment within the Azure environment.
  • Experience maintaining ArcGIS Desktop 3, ArcGIS Pro and other GIS system applications.
  • ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE administration, such as multi-user versioned editing and archiving.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to trouble shoot issues and extend our application frameworks.
  • ESRI ArcGIS Desktop 3 and geoprocessing tools and scripting.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be comfortable working directly with the end-user GIS community to capture, refine, and verify business requirements, as well as translate those requirements into technical tasks.
  • Deploy ArcGIS Enterprise in a Azure Server Environment to maintain a highly reliable service level.
  • MS SQL Server / Oracle RDBMS database administration within the Azure environment.
  • ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE administration, such as multi-user versioned editing and archiving. Qualifications:
GIS Administrator Required Skills:
  • Must have experience with the support & maintenance of ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 (Azure Environment)
  • Experience with Application Frameworks
  • Experience with MS SQL Server\ Oracle RDBMS
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online capabilities and support of web application development
  • Extensive familiarity with geospatial data types
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to write clearly and effectively to communicate complex technical solutions.
  • Experience in diagnosing and correcting system malfunctions.
  • Ability to design, conduct, and evaluate system testing
  • Demonstrated experience working with technical and non-technical staff
  • Strong initiative and ability to perform with little supervision
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Must be able to accomplish tasks in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Desire and commitment to a high level of support to the customer, establishing and maintaining a positive relationship.
