The Backup Engineer (BE) candidate will have a combination of backup and system administrator skills. This role reports to the Manager of Systems Engineering and provides technical leadership and engineering tasks with a primary focus on backing up and protecting company data on IT systems according to defined policies. Responsibilities include managing the backup infrastructure—computers, servers, and storage—performing troubleshooting, problem analysis, and disaster recovery. The BE will also provide backup system administration support, collaborate with stakeholders to install and maintain storage and virtual compute infrastructure, and support defined system integration tasks.Key Responsibilities:Design, implement, and manage backup systems, including on-premise and cloud-based solutions.Implement backup/data protection, storage infrastructure, and compliance standards.Revamp backup methodologies to align with current and emerging security standards.Ensure backup hardware architecture meets capacity requirements (e.g., performance testing, monitoring, operations).Perform backup and replication network engineering tasks (e.g., planning, provisioning).Implement encryption and security measures to safeguard data during transit and storage.Perform periodic software updates, fixes, and security patches on backup/data protection and storage products (specifically Dell EMC Avamar and DataDomain).Automate repeated manual tasks using scripts and job schedulers.Coordinate with storage engineers to orchestrate snapshot and backup job schedules.Provide timely updates to management on backup system health and recovery status.Ensure daily scheduled backups complete successfully and are replicated to the DR/Remote site to meet offsite requirements.Collaborate with IT and business leaders to establish data backup requirements.Work closely with system administrators, network engineers, and database teams to align backup strategies with IT goals.Train and guide junior team members on backup best practices and tools.Troubleshoot backup-related incidents and provide escalation support.Liaise with hardware and software vendors for issue resolution and system upgrades.QualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education7–10 years of IT-related work experienceMinimum 5 years administering Windows and Unix serversMinimum 5 years managing VMware platformsMinimum 5 years with Dell EMC Networker, Avamar, and DataDomain platformsFamiliarity with in the area of Active Directory/LDAP, Backup and Recovery, LAN/WAN, MPLS and VPN Network concepts, Load balancer, Enterprise Security, Enterprise Applications, Citrix, and emerging Cloud technologiesAbility to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectivelyStrong listening, written, and verbal communication skills (English required); excellent teamwork and interpersonal skillsProficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)Preferred:Associate degree
