Job DescriptionAcademic Year Internship Program:

  • Program Dates: September 2025 - April 2026
  • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

Interns may gain experience on the Assignment Desk, writing/producing, and/or with working on our digital platforms.Successful interns will demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to step out of their comfort zone. We are looking for students who are highly motivated and who can function as a team member or independently in a fast-paced news environment.Interns are introduced to every aspect of our news operation, within a structured and supervised environment. Local news interns spend time in each unit observing, learning, and participating.Desired Backgrounds Include: Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, Research.During their rotation, intern will:
  • Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing and editing.
  • Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering.
  • Shadow producers and assignment editors.
  • Produce individual news stories for demo reels and online.
  • Research view calls and tips and assist on the assignment desk.
  • Create individual special project opportunities.
  • Interns should have some experience in journalism, at least in the classroom, but preferably in a television newsroom setting.
  • Schedule requirements: Interns should be willing to work a variety of shifts in order to get the best experience. Interns should be able to work at least two full weekdays.
  • Learn to produce content for linear and multiplatform OTT/Fast Channel, web.
  • Shadow and learn “line producing” and managing live remotes.
  • Pitch, shoot, write, edit and report news and features for Multiplatform
  • Produce daily newscasts, live special coverage, and other programs for multi platforms.
  • Cut video from linear shows for use on websites, apps and social media
  • Identify opportunities for graphics and data visualization
  • Shadow digital editors, TV producers, assignment desk editors and other
  • Assist with social media
Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:
  • News Producer
  • Technical Director/Editor
  • Multimedia Journalist
  • Multiplatform Producer
QualificationsBasic Requirements:
  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2025 through April 2026). December 2025 graduates are not eligible for our 2025-2026 Academic Year Program.
  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish (written and verbal).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2025 to April 2026). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week during internship.
  • Must be willing to work in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Previous internship experience or on-campus involvement
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-intensity environment, often under tight deadline pressures.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interest in and demonstrated knowledge of current affairs.
  • Excellent computer skills (specially search skills).
