We are looking for talented problem solvers with a passion for adapting emerging academic and commercial technologies to develop cross-cutting innovative solutions for the defense, intelligence, and civilian communities.Job Description:We are seeking a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer/Analyst with a diverse range of technical proficiencies and robust programming expertise. This pivotal role entails collaborating with operational stakeholders to design and implement modeling, simulation, and analysis tools at the convergence of mathematics, physics, engineering, and programming. These tools are instrumental in producing and evaluating outcomes while deriving invaluable insights. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an aptitude, and enthusiasm, for learning new methodologies and strategies through on-the-job engagement, fostering productive collaborations with fellow team members.CUIC provides modeling and analysis for several initiatives for INDOPACOM and the Service components in Hawaii. The individual will be responsible for the rapid integration and translation of CUIC capabilities to include modeling and simulation, digital engineering, architecture development, and prototype development to address critical needs in INDOPACOM.This position requires a 3-month minimum, 6-month preferred assignment within CUIC at the McLean, VA or Bedford, MA campus with a 3-year relocation to Honolulu, HI. After the relocation, the candidate will assist in shaping additional CUIC delivery and scaling the CUIC model through on-island MITRE staff and hires. The intent is for the individual to integrate and learn CUIC capabilities in Bedford/McLean prior to relocating to Hawaii to maximize the ability to leverage CUIC capabilities and promote cross-pollination across the teams.Basic Qualifications:
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Due to the lengthy clearance process, candidates without an existing TS/SCI clearance cannot be considered for this opening.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience with developing physics-based modeling and simulation tools and applying those tools to address research questions.
  • Experience with developing and debugging models using programming tools.
  • Experience with understanding simulation results, identifying areas for additional focus, and extracting critical lessons learned.
  • Experience conducting quantitative data analysis using a variety of datasets.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a programming language such as C/C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, or Fortran
  • Must be willing to learn to translate operational requirements into technical specifications and vice versa, ensuring clear communication and alignment between operational teams and technical experts, thus facilitating the development of solutions that meet both operational needs and technical feasibility.
  • Experience presenting analysis results to Sponsors and stakeholders.
  • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters or PhD with research experience in one of the following degree programs: physics, applied mathematics, aerospace, software development for engineering/physical systems, mechanical engineering, or related discipline and work experience with a strong technical background
  • 3-5 years of related industry experience
  • Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as AFSIM, SEAS, or STORM.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: aerodynamic systems, orbital mechanics, signal processing, sensor systems, and RF or EO/IR physics
  • Proficient problem-solving and communications skills, as well as an interest in working in a highly collaborative environment with scientists, analysts, and technical experts across several technical disciplines.
  • Familiarity with the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) region, including its geopolitical dynamics, and key stakeholders, to inform strategic decision-making and planning when exploring operational analysis opportunities.
  • Desire to learn new techniques and approaches on-the-job by leveraging structured educational content, as well as expertise from team members.
  • Hands-on experience in adapting research done in academia and industry to "real-world" challenging data sources and problems sets
