Job Title: Microsoft SharePoint Engineer – Engineering Records and Document Management
Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid)
Duration: 2 YearsPosition OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft SharePoint Engineer to serve as a SharePoint Subject Matter Expert (SME) for architecture, design, and development of departmental intranet and internal SharePoint-based tools, including Engineering Online (EOL). This role requires expertise in SharePoint site/content architecture, front-end design, UX/UI, and governance. Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) is highly desirable. The engineer will collaborate closely with stakeholders and technical teams to design user-friendly, scalable solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesSharePoint Architecture & DesignArchitect intuitive and user-friendly SharePoint environments with clear navigation, branding, metadata models, and permissions.Organize and structure content for searchability and alignment with business workflows.Design, develop, and maintain SharePoint Online intranet pages, libraries, and tools for the Engineering Department.Apply UX/UI design principles to improve usability and visual appeal.Collaborate with communications and process teams to transform content into accessible, structured intranet resources.Develop custom templates, web parts, and layouts using SharePoint Framework (SPFX).Build applications and workflows in SharePoint Online and Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Pages).Administration & MaintenanceMaintain and enhance internal Engineering platforms, including the EOL SharePoint intranet portal.Administer user access and permissions with role-based controls.Support site collections, libraries, workflows, migrations, and optimization tasks.Troubleshoot issues, perform updates, and ensure system performance and compliance.Enhance existing SharePoint/Office 365 applications, including SPFX apps, Designer workflows, PowerShell scripts, Power Apps, and Power Automate flows.Provide support via the Engineering Application Support Hotline.Documentation & CollaborationPrepare technical specifications, system documentation, and support guides for all configurations and workflows.Create training materials to ensure user adoption and self-service.Collaborate with stakeholders, end users, and analysts to gather requirements and optimize SharePoint content strategy.Share best practices through team presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions.Required Education & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Communications, or related field.3+ years of progressive experience in SharePoint Online site design, development, and architecture.Hands-on experience with intranet site design (navigation, layouts, metadata, templates, permissions).Proficiency with SharePoint Framework (SPFX), PowerShell, and SharePoint administration.Strong knowledge of UX/UI design principles.Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe Acrobat Pro).Soft SkillsStrong attention to detail and user-focused mindset.Ability to balance technical development with communication/visual presentation needs.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities independently.Strong collaboration and facilitation skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.Preferred QualificationsExperience with Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI).Familiarity with legacy systems (OpenText, SharePoint Designer workflows).Background in branding, content strategy, or digital communications.Experience working in large organizations with formal content governance (e.g., public agencies, utilities).Process automation and BI experience using Power Automate and Power Apps.Portfolio of prior SharePoint work (intranet site designs, workflows, templates) demonstrating expertise in architecture, development, and UX/UI.
