- Obtains blood specimens and receives nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing. Demonstrates working knowledge of pre-analytical phase of specimen collection to assess acceptability of samples for testing including recognizing substandard specimens (i.e., Lipemic, hemolyzed, under filled, etc.).
- Perform tests and reports results for those acceptable under CLIA guidelines.
- Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage and shipping. Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing. Resolves ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting the physician of the order, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory. Refers unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification before collecting samples or processing specimens. Makes the supervisor aware of unresolved orders.
- Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs. Attend regular department staff meetings and in-service training. Maintains compliance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures, and safety practices. Keeps work area neat and clean and restocks and maintains laboratory supplies daily.
- Provides support for clinical testing including preparation of slides, loading instruments and result reporting as appropriate under CLIA regulations.
- Performs and documents all Medical Laboratory Assistant duties /logs as required by the laboratory supervision and appropriate regulatory requirements.
- Performs clerical functions.
- Establishes a good working relationship with providers, nursing staff, patients and co-workers.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Excellent ability to learn and apply knowledge completed for the on-the-job training provided by the Medical Laboratory Assistants and guided by the Lab Supervisor.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and certification for CPR preferred (Basic Life Saver, BLS).
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good organizational skills with superb attention to detail.
- Good time management and prioritization skills for multiple duties.
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful.
- Phlebotomy certification required or eligible for testing within 1 year of hire.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking to and from sample collection and while running tests.
- Ability to move 30 to 40 pounds to stock supplies and support patients.
- Pay: This is a non-exempt, hourly position and employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis
- Bonus: Position may be eligible for recruitment incentives.
- Typical Schedule: Three (3) - 12 Hour Shifts (6AM - 6:30PM)
- Location: On Site - 202 Prospect Dr, Glendive MT 59330
- Travel: Minimal
