Be the next key member of our Rail Switching Team, as the PSC Group is now hiring for a Switchman in the Nekoosa, WI area! Spend your days along the rail tracks and work as a team with the engineer on the train to safely move railcars in, out, and around the facility. This is a regular full-time position, ideal for someone seeking a stable, long-term career as a rail switching laborer in a booming industry. - Examines track list to spot, separate, load and/or build railcars for shipment
- Ensures railcars are properly connected and/or are secured by setting the brake
- Separates loaded railcars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded
- Weighs all inbound and outbound loads and empties to ensure weights do not exceed
- Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job.
- Repairs and rebuilds railroad tracks, using power and non-power hand tools
- Pull spikes from ties, drills holes through rails for insertion and fastening of bolts, and replaces ballast
- Operates large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers
- Operates proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders
- Lifts and carries track material
- Assists with re-railing of derailed railcars
- Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job
- Experience is a plus but not required, and paid on-the-job training is available
- May require a valid Driver’s License and / or a valid TWIC card, depending on work location
- 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
- Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
- Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.
