The role of the Product Intern is to participate in and lead appropriately scoped supporting processes, using classical manufacturing engineering skills. This position will focus on manufacturing process development in Surface Mount or Electro Mechanical assembly areas. The goal will be to develop sound and repeatable processes that maximize employee safety, product yield, and process efficiency. The individual will collaborate with other engineers at the Focus Factory, Site, and Corporate level to achieve project objectives. All interns will be assigned a mentor for direction and support.RESPONSIBILITIESSupport, recognize, define, and solve problems/opportunities within the Factory.Support of manufacturing process, including layout and concepts.Review labor quotes versus actual times and implement process improvements where opportunities arise.Review Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and provide feedback on labor impact of change.Gain understanding of manufacturing process controls and the statistical applications associated.Assist with Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR's).Develop knowledge of Plexus Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Guidelines.Assist with recommendations as to what format (e.g. tape-n-reel vs. bulk, etc.) to receive raw material in, to optimize the manufacturing process.Assist in determining facility requirements (floor space, utilities, ancillary equipment, etc.) for new processes or equipment, adhering to safety and ergonomic practices.Assist in process Validation activities, per SOP 37, as required. Participates on customer support teams, representing manufacturing and engineering.Additional duties as assigned by Management.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSStudent working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field for entire duration of internship.Experience in Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Lean SigmaProficient in Google ApplicationsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSJunior level statusGPA: 3.0 or higher is preferredExcellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skillsStrong communication skillsPhysical Requirements:
