Under general supervision, serve as a leader of a small crew of workers performing routine tasks involved in a variety of city services. These tasks range from engaging in work ground maintenance activities, landscape, and/or floriculturist activities conducted at park facilities (including parks, special facilities, green houses and gardens), recreation areas, public buildings, parkways, berm areas and other municipal properties.Examples of DutiesGeneral Environmental Technician 2 (Floricultural Helper)
- Assist in the preparation of growing media and propagation of various landscape and tropical plants.
- Pot and repot plants, water and cultivate plants and assist with the growing of plants.
- Assist in the maintenance of landscaped areas such as weeding, watering, deadheading, cutting back, mulching and pruning.
- Prepare beds for planting such as rototilling, trenching, edging, adding soil, weeding and clean up.
- Properly use basic equipment and tools in landscaping/gardening.
- Assist floriculture staff in planting bulbs, annuals, perennials and other seasonal crops.
- Assist in the creation and set up of season decorations.
- Sweep, shovel snow, clean and remove trash, load and unload shipments and perform other manual labor and lifting.
- High School Diploma or G.E. D.
- Two (2) years experience in grounds maintenance work, landscape and/or greenhouse work.
