
Addiction Treatment Counselor Assistant

- Supervises patients at various times in daily program activities as appropriate to assigned shift. Understands the program goals and rules, and addresses any infractions or patient problems immediately, reporting to appropriate staff on duty.
- Support patient program admission process according to current workflow and safety protocols. (CASAC-T and beyond may assist with assessments)
- Competently facilitates educational sessions, helps patients complete assigned reading or written work under the direction of the counseling staff.
- Accurately charts patient rising and retiring, attendance and participation in program activities, and other events as appropriate to report on patient progress.
- Consistently complies with the safety policies, procedures, recognizes and addresses safety hazards and other emergencies.
- Ability to drive the program vehicle (as needed and approved) to provide patient transport to and from appointments
- Responds to medical emergencies appropriately, and as needed.
- Maintains positive professional relationship with all patients, employees, referral sources, and others having contact with Addiction Treatment Services.
- Promotes the delivery of quality patient care by department, being consistently pleasant, courteous, and respectful of the patient’s rights.
- Maintains a general awareness of the purpose and program of Commonwealth Place and the role of the Counselor Assistant within it. Therefore accepts, understands and adheres to the Cannon of Ethics for addictions professionals in New York State.
- Demonstrates good professional boundaries.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or a GED and a CASAC-T certification required with a plan to obtain a CASAC
- If you do not hold a CASAC-T, a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and a CASAC-P certificate is acceptable. A plan to obtain a CASAC is required for the role.
- Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License required
- Six months in a related line of patient care or support role, preferably in addiction treatment.
- One year in a support role working in addiction treatment.
